DAYRAY™
LAUNCHED TO TREMENDOUS RESPONSE

The ground-breaking daylighting technology, DayRay™ Flexible Daylighting, was launched at DesignBuild Expo in early June with tremendous interest and support.

This Australian developed pioneering technology is now set to change conventional daylighting practices, allowing natural light to be transmitted into multi-storey buildings – right into the building's inner core.

DayRay™ is an exciting addition to the Skydome® Holdings range that includes Skydome® Skylight Systems and Skyglazing™ customized glazing solutions.

DayRay™ has set a new benchmark in natural lighting solutions, bringing heat-free daylight to spaces with no exposure to sunlight, delivering a welcome new level of convenience and choice. DayRay™ is the perfect response to increasing demands by business and the public for greener building alternatives.

The application potential for DayRay™ is vast. From single and multi-storey residential properties, to commercial, industrial, mining, shipping and hazardous environments, DayRay™ will change the way we view alternate lighting solutions.

With a focus on environmental sustainability, the launch of DayRay™ at Designbuild featured a distinguished panel including architects, lighting engineers and designers, developers, green building specialists and experts from the Faculty of Architecture UTS who discussed and debated current approaches, challenges and future trends in environmentally sustainable lighting.

According to DayRay™ COO, John Maclay, the new technology was enthusiastically greeted by the many visitors to the exhibition.

“DayRay™ certainly made a tremendous impact. The technology was not only thought provoking, with many architects and property developers working out how it and the wider Skydome® range could be implemented in various commercial and residential applications,” he said.

The launch of DayRay™ has seen the culmination of many years work by a large group of people, including engineers, university professors, federal and state governments and the technology's main supporter, Skydome Skylight Systems.

Production of DayRay™ is currently being scaled up with Mr Maclay expecting the first DayRay units to be installed by September.

VERSATILE “DESIGNER” SKYLIGHT LAUNCHED

“Style, function and versatility” …. that's how Sydney-based interior designer Danielle Dunsford from dbdesigns describes the new glazed segmented skylight from Skydome Skylight Systems. Danielle's comments come after she inspected the new-style skylight recently installed at in inner-city residential project.

Skydome's production team were able to etch a design on to the glazed panels of the segmented skylight that mirrored the fabric design used in the space below, resulting in an attractive and functional natural lighting feature for the entry way. “The effect the glazed segment skylight offers is quite spectacular,”

“Dependent upon the sun's position, the shadow of the design etched onto the glass moves over the space below creating a dramatic design statement,” noted Danielle. Skydome's glazed, segmented skylight was built to specification using sections of curved Heat Strengthened laminated glass sections 11.76mm thick, measuring 1800 mm in diameter. Heat Strengthened glass is some 2.5 – 3 times stronger than normal annealed glass

The latest product range from Skydome's specialised glazing division has three styles of segmented glazed skylights available – two circular styles and a truncated cone-shaped skylight. The skylight's glazing can be clear, tinted or sandblasted to any design.

The lightweight, yet extremely strong extruded aluminium framing system can also be powder-coated to match any interior and exterior colour selection. Apart from domestic use, Skydome's segmented glazed skylights can be used in commercial applications with diameters of up to 3.4 metres available.

According to Skydome Skylight Systems Managing Director, Michael Bonello, the development of these new-styled skylights will give designers and architects a greater selection of natural lighting solutions. “The new segmented skylight range offers additional creative solutions for natural light use,” “They have tremendous aesthetic appeal and design flexibility, enabling greater design freedom when natural light is being used as an adjunct to the design concept,” he said.
